Paul & Brenda's Page

1956 Corvette

This is Brenda's show car.  It is a matching numbers 265 cubic inch, 240 HP.  It was solid artic blue color when we first got it several years ago but now has silver coves.

We've added a period 10-record player on the passenger side.  It's a period RCA player that was produced in the aftermarket from 1957-61. We're planning on doing a page about these players once we get more research done.

One like ours was featured recently on a cable TV show about car restoration (Desert Kings).  It was valued at $1000 in less than this good condition.  The recent trend has them at about half that price.

On the same show it was also said that it was a standard accessory.  As far as we can find, that was only true for Chryslers.  All others such as this one and some Phillips single record players (with a plastic, purple woodgrain finish) were strictly period aftermarket products.

Everyone asks if the player skips.  It doesn't really, except when really jarred.  We're talking railroad tracks not just normal driving.  It has a spring-loaded play arm that is upside down,  it swings away when a record is done, allowing it to fall onto the player's bottom. Another then comes down for playing like an old juke box.

Otherwise, Brenda's Vette has a correct beige interior including a station-seeking Wonderbar radio,  It is AM only and has the Civil Defense station logos.

After several C-2 Corvettes, it has been a real experience changing to this earlier model.  They are definitely different.  Meanwhile, nothing quite captures that vintage flavor like an old, boat-tail Corvette.

The record player..... still plenty of leg room....

The towel is over the air cleaners to prevent a reflection beam from the sun burning the hood paint.  That actually happened with one of my old C-2s.... lesson learned!
