1964 Amphicar

This is our second Amphicar and a lot fun for anyone who has been told to "go jump in the lake like Paul has!  Yup, just drive up and dive in!

This car is powered by an 1147cc Triumph engine.  It is a model 770 meaning that it does 7PMH in the water and 70 on the road.  It really does!  This car is a clone of 25 special Amphis used at the 1964 World Fair and at a Coral Gables, Florida attraction in the 1960's.  Otherwise, it is a stock Amphi car modified for towing.  Here's the car as it arrived a few years ago...

One of the reasons we got into AMphicars was a common question asked at car shows about our Nash Metropolitan.  Occasionally someone would ask, "Is this the one with the propellers?"  We'd then explain the differences between a Met and an Amphicar, noting that the Met had no visible propellers that we knew of.   After a while, we set our goal to have both, just in case someone asked.  Here's a shot of the two side-by-side for comparison.  So which one is the Amphi?

As you can see, the Met is smaller.

One last good story... for some reason, the concept of a car and boat seems to confuse some people.  Another question often asked about the Amphi is, "How deep a water does it go in?"  our stock answer is that it doesn't matter as long as the car is on top!

Last is a pic of the Amphi as we toured around Navajo Lake, Colorado a few summers ago.  That is definitely deep water.
