Taking pictures of our hauling rig became a high priority this year. We've had just taken it for granted but find that many people are interested to know about toy boxes in case they want to buy one later. Through the years we've tried the various combinations including motorhomes with different trailers. We believe that the truck and and 5th-wheel combination works the best for us. We currently run a Ford F-350 dually with a 34' Monaco "Next Level" fifth-wheel toy box. In the RV world, this is called a "rig."
Owning one of these rigs is not always fun nor convenient. The biggest problems are encountered when going to new places for the first time. Often, there is little room to manuever with the continual problem of finding diesel fuel somewhere large enough to refuel without disrupting other customers.
Otherwise, it is nice to have a "home, away from home." It also enables taking our two cats along for long trips. This is our second 5th-wheel hauler in the past 10 years. The first was a Sierra and wasn't all that great. This Holiday Rambler by Monaco has been much better.
We required at least 14 feet depth to haul our Corvette or Amphicar. This limits the number of possibilities since most trailers offer only 11 feet before installing a vapor wall. These others are designed for smaller toys such as ATVs or motorcyles.
Also note, these are great for storing visiting relatives!
When pricing these out, make sure that the generator is included. In past shopping, we wasted a great deal of time traveling to look at new rigs only to discover that the seller witheld the fact that the generator was missing or broken. A good 5K Onan Gold can run above $10K!
